UNV Indonesia joined the International Youth Day celebration on 12 August 2017 at the Erasmus Huis in Jakarta, together with Youth Force 2030 Indonesia, UNFPA Indonesia Youth Advisory Panel, UNFPA Indonesia and Ecofunopoly.
Around 200 youth participated during a talk show and fun interactive session. UNV Indonesia gave a presentation on the importance of youth contributions in promoting peace through volunteering, and the close interlink between peace and sustainable development. Stories of three UN Volunteers from Indonesia who have been serving in Laos (Mr. Anggiet Ariefianto, Programme Manager at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime), Jordan (Mr. Christian Donny Putranto, Associate Refugee Status Determination Officer at the UN High Commission for Refugees) and South Sudan (Ms. Deannisa Hilman, Environmental Officer at the UN Mission in South Sudan) were also shared, explaining how they are contributing to peace through their assignments in the alternative rural development, refugee protection and environmental protection.
During the interactive session, youth participated in various activities such as building stories together in groups to remind the importance of having peace in societies, and playing a floor game which shows the interlink between environmental protection and peace. The game was designed and facilitated by EcoFun, the final winner of the UNV Youth Volunteering Innovation Challenge 2017
